Pope Calling the Kettle Black
It will be interesting to see how he spins that one when he visits Ireland. Hardly a secular country, and in parts of it, you still can't buy a pack of Trojans. So how will he explain how Catholic priests have systematically sodomised generation after generation of children in Catholic schools, orphanages and even within the precincts of their churches? Will he explain away how victims were silenced and the guilty parties moved around the church to offend again instead of having to face justice?
The Pope didn't have to face the Nuremburg trials as his other Nazi colleagues did, however there might one day be a day or reckoning for those who were abused by the power of the Catholic Church.
Just following (Holy) orders won't be a good enough reason for that tribunal either.
Pope addresses sex abuse and secularisation
By Malcolm Moore in Washington

The Pope last night criticised American church leaders for their handling of sex abuse scandals but said that an increasingly secular society needed to shoulder some of the blame. "What does it mean to speak of child protection when pornography and violence can be viewed in so many homes through media widely available today?" he asked at a prayer service attended by hundreds of US bishops. |
